Picking up STEAM on the National Mall
CyArk documented three priority monuments to utilize for the project. These monuments included the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. CyArk was able to utilize data from previous projects for Thomas Jefferson Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. In October of 2019, CyArk traveled to Washington DC to gather additional data on previously documented monuments as well as document the Martin Luther King Jr., Memorial in entirety for the first time.
Produced by CyArk in partnership with the National Park Service, the Monumental Ideas digital experience allows students to virtually visit monuments on the National Mall, utilize tools in the virtual environment, and engage in STEAM-based exploration of the sites. The accompanying lesson plans provide guidance on utilizing 'America's Front Yard' as a launching point for STEAM education in the classroom.
